When you where a ring everyday, don't settle for an everyday ring.
We see many happy couples who receive different opinions on every aspect of their wedding day. Our advice is, you'll wear your ring longer than that dress, see it more often than the photos and it is only your wedding rings that are blessed during the ceremony, make sure you really like it.
“My engagement ring is made from white gold; now it has worn, it has a yellow tinge underneath. Will my wedding ring be the same?”
“If the engagement ring, wedding ring and eternity ring are all worn on the same finger, will I need a shaped wedding band?”
“Isn't it bad luck to try your wedding ring on before the big day?”
“Surely, His and Hers wedding rings should match?”
“I read that the wedding ring should be the same band width as my engagement ring”.
"Wedding rings should be plain, not diamond set!”
“I read that Platinum is so hard, you can't scratch it!”
“My mother says my wedding ring should be made out of gold”.
“My engagement ring is made from white gold; now it has worn, it has a yellow tinge underneath. Will my wedding ring be the same?”
It is always our aim to stock the finest Jewellery, therefore a significant majority of the white gold that we stock, has a much higher palladium content ranging from 13 to 14%. (Palladium is now the most used material in the manufacture of White Gold.) This ensures it is “whiter” all the way through the metal. It is worth enquiring when buying white gold as it is not all the same and other manufacturers often use as little as 7%.
“If the engagement ring, wedding ring and eternity ring are all worn on the same finger, will I need a shaped wedding band?”
For the traditionalists, to achieve the best fit it is always preferable to get your wedding ring custom shaped to your engagement ring and we can obviously do this. However, nowadays it's what works that's important and we have 8,000 to choose from!
Did you know a trend we are seeing more and more from Continental Europe (especially Scandinavian countries) is the engagement ring being moved to the right hand once you are married.
“Isn't it' bad luck to try your wedding ring on before the big day?”
It's even worse luck if your rings don't fit on the day!
“Surely, His and Hers wedding rings should match?”
Why? Couples rarely have exactly the same tastes; why not let each partner choose their own ring. If you wear a ring everyday make sure it isn't an everyday ring.
"I read that the wedding ring should be the same band width as my engagement ring”.
This is a common myth and is rarely adhered to as it will dramatically restrict your choice of wedding rings. Also it is impossible if your engagement ring is graduated as they often are. You really need to try different band widths to see what you think looks best .
“Wedding rings should be plain, not diamond set!”
It's a matter of personal choice. Years ago, only an eternity ring would be diamond set. But nowadays, there is no set norm.
“I read that Platinum is so hard, you can't scratch it!”
All metals become scratched. However , platinum is more resilient to scratches than gold. The finish on a ring, whether polished or matt, will alter with time taking on its own unique patina (look). Rings made of Titanium or Steel are harder to scratch as they are harder metals. Take into consideration the wear a ring will get during everyday use.
“My mother says my wedding ring should be made out of gold”.
This is a very traditional view. There are many beautifully designed wedding rings available in an exciting range of alternative materials: titanium, silver, steel and mixed metals. To appreciate these fully, visit the shop and show her.
